Temperature Effects on Membrane Chloride Conductance and Electrical Excitability of Lizard Skeletal Muscle Fibres

چکیده
1. Intracellular recording techniques were used to study the effects of temperature on resting membrane conductances, electrical excitability and synaptic efficacy in fast-glycolytic (FG) skeletal muscle fibres from the lizard Dipsosaurus dorsalis. 2. The conductance of the resting muscle membrane to chloride ions (gci) increased from 488/iScm" at 15°C (pH7-8) to 730/iScm~ at 45°C (pH7-4), yielding a temperature coefficient (thermal ratio, Rio) of 1-14. Resting potassium conductance (gic) increased from 84/iScm~ at 15 °C to 236 ^S cm" at 45 °C (R10=l-41). 3. Fibres bathed in Cl -free Ringer's solution were hyperexcitable, and produced repetitive action potentials both during and following intracellular current injection. At the preferred body temperature of Dipsosaurus (near 40°C) the fibres also fired repetitively in response to single nerve shock. 4. The electrical excitability of Dipsosaurus fibres decreased with increasing temperature. Threshold current, measured at endplate regions of fibres bathed in normal Ringer's solution, was 146 nA at 15°C and 353 nA at 45°C (R1 0= 1-34). 5. Despite the temperature-dependent change in threshold current, at both 15 and 45 °C all fibres examined had suprathreshold neuromuscular transmission in response to single nerve shock. 6. The relative thermal independence of ga in Dipsosaurus fibres may be an adaptation that contributes to a large safety factor for neuromuscular transmission at the high body temperatures preferred by this lizard species.

The effects of temperature acclimation on the resting membrane of skeletal muscle fibres from green sunfish.
Conductive properties of muscle fibres from green sunfish (Lepomis cyanellus) acclimated to different temperatures were examined. The relative membrane permeability to chloride and potassium ions, PCl/PK, measured at acclimation temperature, was approximately 7.0 after acclimation at 25 degrees C and 1.3 after acclimation at 7 degrees C. This difference was due to a six-fold reduction in the me...

In this study, effects of Buthus eupeus venom on chick biventer cervices nerve-muscle preparation were investigated by twitch tension method. The venom, at 1.3 ?g/ml, increased contractile responses in indirect stimulations. These effects were milder in direct muscle stimulations. It also caused significant enhancement in postjunctional sensitivity as assessed by responses to exogenous acetylch...

متن کاملEffects of ionic parameters on behavior of a skeletal muscle fiber model
All living cells have a membrane which separates inside the cell from it's outside. There is a potential difference between inside and outside of the cell. This potential difference will change during an action potential. It is quite common to peruse action potentials of skeletal muscle fibers with the Hodgkin-Huxley model. Since Hodgkin and Huxley summarized some controlling currents like inwa...

1. The thermal dependence of passive electrical properties was determined for twitch fibres from the white region of the iliofibularis (IF) muscle of Anolis cristatellus (15-35 degrees C) and Sceloporus occidentalis (15-40 degrees C), and for twitch fibres from the white (15-45 degrees C) and red (15-40 degrees C) regions of the IF of Dipsosaurus dorsalis. These species differ in thermal ecolog...
